IELTS WRITING Sample Answer ( IELTS 12 TEST7 )

In a number of countries, some people think it is necessary to spend large sums of money on constructing new railway lines for very fast trains between cities. Others believe the money should be spent on improving existing public transport.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

It is a controversial issue whether governments should prioritize the construction of new rapid railway systems over the improvement of current public transportations. In general, the enhancement of transportation networks is essential to develop the countries' economy and the quality of daily people's lives.

To begin with, the refinement of existing public transportation has a beneficial influence on our society, especially on our regular lives. Improving the current transportation would reduce the number of traffic jams which is considered the most troublesome problem in an urban society. It would also result in prevention of air pollution which is mainly caused by car emission.

On the other hand, the construction of new fast train network has a positive effect on the countries' economy, because revitalization results from generating local employment and human resources. Constructing new railways must need a large labor force. As a result, the plan to construct new railroads will create jobs and galvanize the local economy. After the construction, the fast train systems would make people's commutes more convenient and faster than ever. It will be easier for them to commute to a distant city. Therefore, under these circumstances the flow of people and goods become active.

In my opinion, I think that the advantages of construction of new railway lines outweigh them of improvement of existing public transports, in terms of economic interests.

In conclusion, it is undeniable that both opinions have good points concerning public interests. However, constructing new rapid train systems is more beneficial to our society. Governments should allocate more sufficient budgets to make new fast train systems.
